Poulomi Bhadra is an academic, researcher, and higher education leader with over 11 years of experience in teaching, research, student mentorship, and academic administration. 

She is a forensic scientist turned criminologist who maps bold intersections between evidence, law, psychology, media, and philosophy. Her current body of work focuses on gender violence, cultural crimes and criminal psychology. 

Her recent initiatives in academia are directed towards collaborating with founding leaders to model holistic higher education landscape within India and globally. On the research front, is keen to work with grassroot gladiators and change-makers towards transformative thinking and meaningful collaborations.

ABOUT 

Poulomi Bhadra is currently serving as the Head of Programmes at BITS Law School, BITS - Mumbai Campus. In this role, she leads the development of the academic ecosystem at BITSLAW, focused on programme delveiry, teaching and learning strategy and experience, student welfare services and wellbeing, holistic development and overall partnership initiatives. She works closely with the founding leadership team to build a progressive, interdisciplinary and technology-led approach to legal learning.  

Previously, she has worked as an Assistant Professor & Assistant Dean at O. P. Jindal Global University (JGU), primarily working working on forensic criminology and criminal psychology. Prior to joining JGU, she has worked at the Natural History Museum, London with the London Metropolitan Police on research in forensic entomology. Poulomi holds an MSc in Forensic Science from King’s College London and a postgraduate degrees in Criminology and Criminal Psychology from University of Essex, and in Biotechnology from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, India. 

 

A career zigzagger within academia, Bhadra has worked with some of the best education institutions such as O. P. Jindal Global University & BITS Law School, BITS Pilani Mumbai campus where she has held progressively varied roles in teaching, research and academic leadership. Her interdisciplinary work lies at the intersection of forensic science, criminology, psychology, law, media, and technology. Her research interests include scientific evidence in criminal law, cognitive bias in forensic examinations, gender-based violence, cyber victimization, and crime in art and digital cultures. She has successfully taught courses in forensic science, crime scene investigation, investigative psychology, and media and crime studies across both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Her interdisciplinary training in STEM and the social sciences enables her to apply a creative, evidence‑led approach to complex challenges in higher education as she partners with founding leadership to design impactful degree programmes, cultivate holistic campuses, and build rigorous, transdisciplinary academic ecosystems.

She has collaborated internationally on projects related to victimology, criminal justice, and gender violence, and has co-edited scholarly volumes on criminal law and criminal psychology. Beyond academia, Bhadra's writing and research have appeared on BBC, The Independent, The Wire, and other outlets; she has also been invited to contribute expert commentary on documentaries. She is also involved with various non-governmental organizations and international research projects focused impact assessment, accessibility and capacity building, and awareness campaigns. She is presently a member of the South Asian Society of Victimology and Criminology, the World Society of Victimology, the European Society for Criminology, and the Chartered Society of Forensic Science, UK. She was also part a European COST Action CA18228 Working group analysing the relationship between States and international criminal justices. 

PUBLICATIONS

Bhadra has published widely in the areas of criminal psychology, criminal law and international justice issues. While she publishes mostly in English, some of her works have been translated to other languages such as German. Her last edited volume on 'Criminal Psychology & the Criminal Justice System in India' received the Top Downloaded Book Award in Social Sciences books published in 2021-2025 (India) at Springer Nature Books Summit 2026.

 

She is also deeply committed to advancing public science communication and is currently working on non‑fiction titles to bring rigorous, accessible science to a wider readership.
